Abstract

Hamadryas baboons (Papio hamadryas) are distributed throughout the mountainous regions of northeastern Africa and southwest Arabia. Once distributed the Hamadryas baboon was widespread but gradually its distribution decreased and it was considered to be of least concern. This requires ex-situ conservation by knowing the daily behavior of the primate species Papio hamadryas to support the success of ex-situ conservation efforts so as to increase population numbers. The method used is observing behavioral patterns which include eating patterns, sleeping patterns, social activity patterns, and movement patterns from visual observations of changes in the activity of Hamadryas baboons carried out directly with the help of an image recording device, namely a handycam. The primates observed consisted of 4 individuals, including the alpha baboon, 1 female baboon, 2 female baboons, and 3 female baboons. The results obtained after observation were 248 male behaviors and 228 female baboons behaved the least, so it can be concluded that Male baboons are more active than females. And the behaviors obtained are eating, moving, social, resting and playing alone.
