Abstract

Toxicity test is a test used to detect the toxic effect of a substance on a biological system, and to obtain data regarding the dose and response that is specifically generated from the test preparation. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of differences in extract types, solvents and extraction methods on toxicity testing results using brine shrimp lethality test (BSLT) method. the method used in this research is literature study. Based on research on toxicity testing using the Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method along with phytochemical screening that has been carried out in several research journals, shows different results. This can be influenced by several factors, such as the use of types of extracts that contain certain compounds and toxic levels, types of solvents, and the extraction method used in the toxicity test in the study. In the BSLT method, measuring the level of toxicity of a compound is used LC50. LC50 (Lethal Concentration 50%) is a concentration that can cause the death of 50% of experimental animals during a certain time. if the LC50 value <1000 μg / mL is toxic and the LC50 value > 1000 μg / mL is non-toxic.
