Abstract

Antibacterials are substances that can interfere with growth and even kill by disrupting metabolism in microbes. One of the most widely used antibacterial substances is antibiotics. Inappropriate use of antibiotics can cause resistance. Therefore, 75-95% of the population in the world today are still competing to find the best treatment through plants. One of these plants comes from the genus Ficus. Many studies have shown that the leaf of Ficus benjamina, Ficus elastica and Ficus carica tissues exhibit antimicrobial activity. This review describes progress on research conducted to understand the antimicrobial activity and related bioactive properties of Ficus benjamina, Ficus elastica and Ficus carica compounds, and discusses the potential use of Ficus benjamina, Ficus elastica and Ficus carica in antibacterial activity.
