Abstract

Staphylococcus epidermidis is pathogenic bacteria that can cause infections, especially on the skin. One alternative treatment of infection causing S. epidermidis other than antibiotic is through the use of plant parts that contain antibacterial compounds. One of the plants containing antibacterial compound is glodokan tiang leaf (Polyalthia longifolia). The Research was conducted from September to Oktober 2021. The extract of glodokan tiang leaves (P. longifolia) in this study used a concentration of 25%, 50%, 75% and Amoxicillin as a positive control. The antibacterial activity test to observe inhibition zone was done through the disc diffusion method. The result showed that the extract of P. longifolia leaves were bacteriostatic. In this research, the highest inhibition zone occurred at a concentration of 75%, while the optimum treatment in inhibiting the growth of  S. epidermidis was the concentration of 50%. Antibacterial activity in P. longifolia leaves extract occurs due to the content of secondary metabolite compounds such as flavonoid, saponin, tanin and others that can act as antibacterial. The result of statistical test showed a significant difference in the diameter of inhibition zone of the treatment of extract P. longifolia leaves with positive control.
