Abstract

The rodent tuber plant (Typhonium flagelliforme) is one of the plants that has the potential as an nutritious medicine. The active compounds inside, especially phenols and flavonoids, have the potential as antioxidants, anticancer, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties. Total phenol and flavonoid  are important to maximize the utilization of the rodent tuber plant (Typhonium flagelliforme). The purpose of this study was to determine the content of secondary metabolites, total phenol and flavonoid of the methanol extract of the leaves and tubers of rodent tuber (Typhonium flagelliforme). Phytochemical test method was carried out qualitatively by phytochemical screening and quantitative test of total phenol and total flavonoids using UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results of the study showed that the methanol extract of rodent tuber leaves contained phenols, flavonoids, tannins, saponins and steroids. The tuber methanol extract of rodent tuber contains phenols, flavonoids, tannins, saponins and alkaloids. The total phenol content in leaves was 25.13 mg GAE/g and in tubers was 12.6 mg GAE/g. The total flavonoid content in leaves was 15.33 mg QE/g and in tubers was 9.3 mg QE/g.
